Singing “Pressure” At NPP’s Won Gbo Demo Doesn’t Make It A Political Song – Pharuk Jbreal

A major component of demonstrations is music, which allows demonstrators to drive home their message.

“Pressure” a song by Pharuk Jbreal, one of Ghana’s budding artiste was the toast of patrons of the recently mammoth demonstration organized by NPP with support from other political parties.

The demo which was dubbed won gbo saw quiet a significant number of the demonstrators singing “pressure ooo pressure, pressure on mahama, for a better Ghana, Agyi obama” a popular line in the song.

The song which was initially thought to belong to the son of the late Vice president of Ghana Aliu Mahama was given much prominence during the demonstration.

When Pharuk Jbreal was contacted for to ascertain his views on the phenomenon, he expressed his frustration as to how a section of media and some entrenched people are trying to brand the song political. He went on to explain that the fact that some participants of the demonstration were singing the song doesn’t make the song political.

“The song is not political, Ghanaians has accepted it and its popularity is growing by the day. It is a creative piece that seeks to catalog the various challenges that arises out of one’s position in society. Yes there is pressure on Mahama to deliver on his better Ghana agenda which is normal. Former presidents including President Kuffour, the late President Atta Mills and President Rawlings have all being under pressure to deliver. I addressed pressure on a pastor, pressure on a football etc in the song and a lot of people can relate that’ he articulated

When he was quizzed on his plan for the song, he said his management Xcess Entertainment has lined up a series of events for him this year. First is his album listening party, a pub tour, club tour and a concert dubbed The Throne (Pharuk Jbreal Live) to outdoor his brand officially and release his Zongo King EP.
